BOILABLE AND NON-BOILABLE CATGUT

BOILABLE CATGUT:

i)                   The boilable catgut is prepared by heat sterilization method.

ii)                 The tubing fluid is anhydrous e.g. Toluene.

iii)               The tubes are boiled before opening by Operation Theater staff.

NON-BOILABLE CATGUT:

i)                   If the tubing fluid contains any hydrous liquid, the catgut is called as non-boilable.

ii)                 Outside of the tube is not boiled before opening of the tube.

iii)               Official catgut is of non-boilable type.
